NIS2: Cybersecurity for critical sectors
The NIS2 Directive lays the foundation for uniform cybersecurity standards in the EU. It obliges companies from critical sectors such as energy, health and transportation to

The aim is to minimize risks and strengthen resilience against cyber attacks.
CRA: Security for connected products
The Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) extends the focus to all connected products with digital elements. From 2027, manufacturers must ensure that their devices are developed securely from the outset. The requirements include:

- regular security updates over the entire life cycle,
- and proof of compliance with strict security standards.
EN 18031: Technical standards for radio equipment
The EN 18031 standard specifies the CRA requirements specifically for radio equipment and IoT devices. It will become mandatory from August 2025 and covers three areas:
- Internet-connected radio equipment,
- Devices for processing personal data,
- Devices for financial transactions.
Manufacturers must ensure secure communication, integrate data protection mechanisms and enable regular updates throughout the entire product life cycle.
The new regulations pose considerable challenges:
- Technical complexity requires far-reaching adjustments to development and production processes.
- Short deadlines are putting companies under pressure: EN 18031 will become mandatory as early as August 1, 2025, with the CRA following in 2027.
- Security gaps can have legal consequences.
