Combining Component Services

Component services can be used individually or combined in one coordinated process.

For example, components may need to be inspected, tested, dried, reconditioned, programmed, taped or repackaged before they are ready for the next production step. When several providers are involved, every handover creates another transport step, interface and documentation status.

btv technologies combines the required services according to the component, its condition, the sourcing route and the requirements of the intended production process.

Available component services include:

  • Testing and quality inspection
  • Authenticity inspection
  • PCB and failure analysis
  • Component reconditioning
  • Drying and baking
  • Component taping and packaging
  • Assembly
  • Repackaging and traceability
  • Component programming
  • Embedded and secure programming with btv SEEL®

This allows related operations to be handled within one coordinated workflow. For example, programmable components supplied in tubes or trays can be programmed, verified and subsequently placed into the tape and reel configuration required for production.

The exact combination depends on the component and the intended result. Services can be integrated from sample quantities through to series production, with documentation and traceability defined for the individual project. btv technologies already provides these operations as a modular component-services portfolio.

Component Reconditioning

Component reconditioning at btv: restoring your components to manufacturer specification – including authenticity check, baking, taping and visual inspection. A structured, documented process – unlike a classic electronics repair service, which typically only fixes isolated issues instead of fully restoring the original condition.

Authenticity first

Before every restoration, we verify the component's authenticity and document the result – particularly relevant for components from the secondary or spot market. We share details of our testing methodology in a personal conversation.

We'll check whether reconditioning is worthwhile for your components.

SCHEDULE A MEETING

Drying & Baking

Drying & baking for moisture-sensitive components (Moisture Sensitive Devices, MSD): controlled drying and standard-compliant heat treatment to IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033 for moisture- and aging-sensitive electronics. Every step in the process is continuously monitored and documented – including bag-and-seal packaging.

During storage, the moisture barrier bag remains sealed – traceability is maintained at packaging-unit level, without exposing the component to unnecessary risk from moisture or ESD.

  • Individual process adaptation: tape or tray, strictly to standard or to your specification
  • Long-term-storage-ready: quality-assured baking and documented drying for subsequent long-term storage

Taping, Packaging, Assembly and Repackaging

A component can be available and technically suitable without being ready for the intended production line. Parts may arrive in tubes, trays, cut tape, bulk packaging or an unsuitable reel configuration. Orientation, tape width, pitch or reel format may also differ from the requirements of the intended feeding system.

btv technologies provides standard and custom component taping for electronic and electromechanical parts. Services range from small individual quantities to automated high-volume processing.

Custom Component Taping and Tape and Reel

Component taping describes the process of placing parts into carrier tape in a defined orientation and securing them with cover tape. Tape and reel describes the resulting packaging and feeding format.

For surface mount devices, this process is often called SMD taping. Custom component taping is the broader term. It can also include suitable electromechanical parts such as PCB terminal blocks and battery contacts.

btv technologies processes components supplied in:

  • Tubes
  • Trays
  • Cut tape
  • Bulk packaging
  • Unsuitable reel configurations

Component orientation, pocket geometry, pitch, tape width and reel format are matched to the requirements of the intended production process.

Our services include:

  • Small lots and automated high-volume taping
  • Custom component orientation
  • Selection of suitable carrier tape
  • Pocket, pitch and reel configuration
  • Cover tape application and sealing
  • 2D and 3D inspection
  • Lot splitting, recounting and repackaging
  • Documentation of packaging units
  • Assembly services such as crimping, bending and cutting

Programming and Taping

For programmable components, programming and subsequent taping can be combined in one coordinated process.

Components supplied in tubes or trays can be programmed, verified and placed directly into the tape and reel configuration required for production. This reduces additional transport and handovers between different service providers.

Programming and component taping remain separate technical operations. Combining them within one coordinated order creates a continuous workflow and a consistent documentation status.

Express Processing Within 24 Hours

Suitable taping projects can be processed within 24 hours.

Feasibility depends on:

  • Component geometry
  • Quantity
  • Availability of suitable carrier tape
  • Defined component orientation
  • Available and approved process data
  • Inspection and documentation requirements
  • Availability of the components
  • Complete order information

A previously defined and approved configuration can be processed more quickly than a new project for which the pocket, orientation and process parameters first need to be specified.

The 24-hour commitment refers to the agreed processing period. Transport and delivery times are confirmed separately for each project. The standard processing time is 10 working days. For suitable projects, express processing within 24 hours is available. The applicable processing time is confirmed for each project.

Quality Before Repackaging

Where the origin, storage or condition of the components requires further assessment, taping is not the first step.

Depending on the project, components may first require:

  • Visual, dimensional or parametric inspection
  • Authenticity inspection
  • Functional testing
  • Drying and baking
  • Component reconditioning
  • Selection
  • Documented repackaging

Once the components have been evaluated and approved, they can be packaged in the configuration required by the intended production process.

New tape and reel packaging changes the carrier format. It does not provide evidence of authenticity or quality by itself.

Discuss Your Taping Requirements

Would you like to determine which taping configuration fits your component and production process?

Critical Parts Concept – Using the Nexperia crisis as an example

During the Nexperia crisis in autumn 2025, companies faced a classic problem: the manufacturer, which supplies around 40 percent of standard chips for the automotive industry, could no longer deliver as usual – fair-share allocations by distributors decided who could keep producing and who couldn't.

The Critical Parts Concept is the structural answer to this. It works on three pillars:

Pillar What this means for you
Procurement on demand You negotiate prices and quantities directly with manufacturers and decide what is bought where. btv technologies implements it immediately – around the clock, globally.
Reconditioning at goods-in Every component is inspected, recorded with lot number, production date and country of origin, and marked with the customer's logo – the same structured process as our Component Reconditioning. From goods-in onward, the goods are owned by the customer.
Distribution per customer instruction Stock can be allocated within minutes – no fair-share risk, no approval loops.

We'll show you how the Critical Parts Concept works for your supply chain.

About industry solutions

FAQ – Direct, honest, to the point

Yes. btv technologies is ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949:2016 and AEO C/S certified. All services – from programming to testing – are documented in certified processes and audit-ready. AEO certification additionally secures accelerated customs clearance and preferential treatment in international trade.

You'll receive an initial response to your inquiry within 24 hours. For component services and programming, the following then applies: 10 business days in the standard process, 24 hours for express requests. We'll clarify the exact terms for express cases in a personal conversation.

No. The 24-hour commitment refers to the agreed processing period. Transport and delivery times are confirmed separately for each project. Feasibility depends on the component, required services, available materials and complete order information.

Yes. Component services can be used individually or combined in one coordinated process. Depending on the project, this may include testing, authenticity inspection, reconditioning, drying and baking, programming, component taping, assembly or repackaging.

The appropriate combination depends on the component, its condition, the sourcing route and the requirements of the intended production process.

Yes – and that's a key advantage. Components can be stored and, on request, programmed, taped or assembled directly. One process, one handover, complete traceability from goods-in to delivery.

Component taping describes the process of placing parts into carrier tape in a defined orientation and securing them with cover tape.

Tape and reel describes the resulting packaging and feeding format. The sealed carrier tape is wound onto a reel for automated feeding.

Yes, provided the components are technically suitable for the intended taping process and suitable carrier tape is available.

The parts are removed from their original packaging, oriented, placed into carrier tape, sealed and inspected according to the agreed requirements. For bulk components, reliable separation and orientation must also be technically feasible.

Yes. Programmable components supplied in tubes or trays can be programmed, verified and subsequently placed into the tape and reel configuration required for production.

Programming and taping remain separate technical operations, but they can be completed within one coordinated process. This reduces additional handovers and supports consistent documentation.

We work with zero-error tolerance: every single component is 100% verified against its programming image. 3D inspection, laser marking to customer specification, integrated testing and complete traceability ensure the highest quality standards are met.

Yes. In case of suspected counterfeit or non-conforming components, we perform a multi-stage authenticity check – visual, dimensional and parametric, documented and audit-ready.

Potentially, but taping should only take place after the material has been evaluated and approved.

Depending on the risk profile, authenticity inspection, functional testing, drying, reconditioning or additional documentation may be required. New packaging changes the carrier format. It does not replace a quality assessment.

Even without an existing BOM, we deliver full component identification – including manufacturer, part number and function – as the basis for testing, reconditioning or redesign.

Reconditioning at btv is a structured, fully documented process to restore components to manufacturer specification – including baking, taping and visual inspection. This differs from selective repair through the traceability and repeatability of every step.

The Critical Parts Concept structurally secures business-critical components – independent of fair-share allocations. Every component is inspected at goods-in to the same standard as our reconditioning process, recorded with lot number, production date and country of origin, and marked with your logo. From that moment on, the goods belong to you. We'll clarify what this looks like for your specific supply structure in a conversation.
